Open D Tuning

Open D is one alternate tuning that's simple and fun to play. It is a perfect explorative territory for those guitarists who are looking to break away from the routine. Tuning to Open D is really simple. From low to high, you need to tune the low E to D. Then, the 3rd G to F#. B to A and Low E to D. As simple as ABC. All that’s left is for you to strum each string individually, and you'll have a fat and majestic sounding D chord!
Here's an awesome idea to kick start your experimentation with this tuning: Play the Major Scale on the 1st string (High D) while playing all the other strings open. You'll have such a beautiful sounding D Major scale played!
